While riding around the flea market at the 2010 Charlotte Antique Radio Conference in my golf cart, my cool tube radar

suddenly lite up when I spotted the tube shown below.

The markings on it identified it as an Ion Tube.

My first thought was

"oh man I gotta have that". Later when I found the sellers and he told me the price was $1400 bucks I decided maybe I didn't really want it after all. Naw that's not true, I still want it, I'm just not going the pay his price for it.

It is one seriously cool tube, does anyone know what it is?

I did a little Google  search and the only reference I could find was for use in laser work.
